Good morning- In many ways I cannot believe that it has been an entire year since I last wrote on this blog but in other ways it seems a lifetime ago. Fitting too that the last post was of Christmas. Catching you up on a year’s worth of stuff is impossible so I’ll give a few details and get on with it.
I have decided to dream.. well I’ve always been a dreamer…always. It tends to drive some of the people around me crazy (those with both feet firmly planted in the here and now). I fought it for years but have come to the place that this is just me and there is NOTHING wrong with being a dreamer. The defining change though is that I am making changes to make dreams become reality. Hopefully this is one of the places where I can begin to share those dreams and you, my readers ( note to self.. find some people to read this thing…) can share the journey with me. I choose the name and phrase for my blog 2.5 years ago when I lost my husband of almost 29 years to cancer. I’ve been called Momma T or Mother Theresa for years and. the phrase is, “The Sweetest Journey leads Home”. Home is where I am heading and home has a new meaning now, one that is unfolding before me.
So one the subject of dreaming- I’ll start with a peek at my bedroom all dressed up for Christmas! On my Instagram theresa.p.abraham I’ve been sharing a series of posts about how to make a beautiful bed. I love to make the bed look comfy and inviting. My Mamaw was a meticulous bed maker- she always made her bed, folded the sheets a particular way and to me, made the most beautiful bed. She was an artisan, made dolls and quilts to support her family. I had a pair of Noah’s ark sheets and that set the stage for my love of a beautiful bed today!
Step one was adding layers and step two was texture. You can go to my Instagram here and find those posts.
The next step I want to talk about is the bed itself. The bed sets the entire tone of a room. What is your style? What do you want to feel when you walk into your room to rest? We spend a lot of time in our beds ( about 1/3 or our life…) so it should not be an afterthought.

This bed was bought off of Craigslist. I wanted a French inspired bed and searched bed, French in the search tab. It has a baseboard and gorgeous side rails but was in bad shape. The woman told me her father brought it over from France after WW2. It’s the real deal…and I paid less than $200 for it a few years ago. I LOVE it…love.it. I will likely never part with it… It is painted in Anne sloan Paris Grey and the relief on it is brushed with white chalk paint. It is grey but it is a NEUTRAL so I can change my linens and rug and have a different feel to my room. You do not have to spend a lot of money on a bed. What do you have at home that can suffice for a headboard? You can use old doors, (think the Restore ) and there are tutorials galore on the great Google to help you create the bed of your dreams….
You can see the other concepts of layering here..
Layers of fabric in different weights keeps me cozy and comfortable. I want to be able to see the layers peeking out from under my pillows.
Texture is also very apparent in this room.

On this bed alone I have cotton, linen, velvet, flannel, fir, and crochet work. Baskets and old leather suitcases sit at the bottom of the bed, hobnail glass lamps beside the bed and sisal trees add a pop of Christmas. It is important to note that all I have to do to ‘winterize’ this room is remove the Christmas decor items. the rest of the room will stay the same until spring.

OH– and this tree…Isn’t she dreamy??? It’s fromBalsam Hill…
Couldn’t leave that out! Excuse me while I go put my feet up and relax while I gaze at her beauty!
Theresa
