Channeling my inner Boho princess (or my boho farmhouse living room-part one)

I am always thinking up something new to do or accomplish, most of which I never start. I ponder and imagine out loud which can be very exhausting for people around me. It is just the way I process things, the way I think and dream and I have been doing a lot of this lately

My home has always been a place of refuge and creativity for me. I love to design and create but lately it has been full of sadness and memories. Nighttime is the worst, I am faced with what i’ll refer to as the Great Alone. Memories and emptiness are around every corner.

I bought another chair for the living room. We never have enough chairs and someone invariably ends up on the floor, which is not particularly comfortable as it is wood. But I could not figure out how to put that chair in the room. We rearranged the room into multiple arrangements and I thought there was just no way it was gonna fit. There are three entrances into the room and traffic flows from the kitchen to the back bedrooms to the foyer. Alyssa and Frank suggested a catty-corner and moved the large sofa this way. I liked it but it didn’t work with the other furniture.

Last week, while home alone I decided to try again. I rolled up my sleeves and put the love seat in the corner and voila!  It worked. All the furniture fits and it looks and feels different.

I decided I wanted to put some bohemian flare into the room. I started where I always start, Pinterest. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money so I looked at elements of boho design and noticed a few standout things that I thought I could incorporate without big money.

1-Textiles, layered, colorful or textured. Lots of textiles. I already own blankets, quilts, vintage linens and rugs. ( I might have a small problem with this and glassware…)

2-Plants… I have been know to be the killer of all things green in the past but am working on my green(ish) thumb

3-Artistic flair – I already have a gallery wall.

4-Color-  I am sticking with shades of blue and white with pops of green

So today is the first of my posts on home decor. It wasn’t  intended to be this room. I thought it would be my bedroom, which is almost finished. But this room just wanted to be featured.

The focus of design today is the plants. I have been keeping a couple of plants alive for some time now, so I have graduated to succulents and easy to care for house plants.

I have discovered that here is something about a plant. It speaks life. I desire to live even in the midst of this sadness. Plants are a way to connect to something that is living, breathing and ALIVE.

So i added lots of plants to my living room. I declare it my summer boho farmhouse living room and it makes me happy.

The pots are blue, the plants are green.

That blank canvas wants to be another cow. Soon, hopefully. Later I’ll share about the other design elements of my boho farmhouse space.  and I will get my regular camera and trusty tripod out for better photos. But for now I think I’ll clean up the mess I made in the kitchen while potting the plants!
